Corsets And Honey Bees at Alexander McQueen Summer 2013 Fashion
Signature tailored jackets are layered over jewelled, moulded resin bustier tops and sheer, mid-calf length honeycomb pencil skirts, or cropped panelled trousers. A play between covering the body and discreetly exposing it is seen throughout as the transparent is juxtaposed with the opaque and garments peel away from necklines and shoulders. Lightness is paramount: intricately woven jacquards, lacquered lace and laser cut patent leather hover over silk organza. Cages, corsets and crinolines in various incarnations are worn as underpinnings or as finished, elaborately embellished pieces in their own right. Every aspect of the foundation garment and the transformation of the body that is a hallmark of the house of Alexander McQueen is explored.
“The collection is a study of femininity. We looked at erotica. Vargas girls, cages, corsets and crinolines and the idealisation of the female form. Nothing is set in a particular period. It’s about sensuality and skin but not nudity. We also wanted to express lightness, for the clothes almost to hover over the women who wear them.”
Alexander McQueen brand knows how to put on a show. And their Summer 2013 fashion show is not an execption. The collection is an exuberant mix of corsets, peplums, tiered skirts, and textures. Dramatic and structured pieces are elaborate and embellished with ruffles, jewels, and fabric decorations.
The key theme of the collection is the honey bee and a honeycomb pattern. The first part of the collection consists of suits and ensembles in a honeycomb print completed with amber-like cuffs and belts decorated with golden honey bees.
As I already mentioned the pieces are structured and complex. There are blazers with layered peplums and bustiers, enhanced with bee wing elements and interesting necklines. Corsets come as belts and tops putting an accent on the waist.
The materials are textured and embellished which gives the outfits extra visual detail. Bustiers in dresses are decorated with a honeycomb net while the full skirts feature exposed hoops. The dresses are decorated with fabric flowers which completes the collection’s theme.
All the models wore beekeeper-style honeycomb net hats that disguised their faces. They also wore massive bejeweled chokers decorated with bees.
Honey bee theme continued via accessories as well. The bags and clutches were designed in a honeycomb pattern and decorated with flowers. The footwear also featured the honeycomb net.
The footwear comes in interesting designs featuring jewels and clear platform which morphs into a small misplaced heel. There are also thigh high patterned boots that rather look like hosiery.
Valentino Summer 2013 Fashion
Valentino Summer 2013 ready-to-wear collection is nothing less than amazing. Elegant dresses, feminine silhouettes and delicate fabrics make for a wearable collection of dresses, jumpsuits, and ensembles.
But beside flowing fabrics and gentle silhouettes the collection features transparent and leather trench coats, studded clutches, and snakeskin printed items. Seems like the transparent clothing and accessory trend is back again for Summer 2013.
A good number of handbags and clutches in the collection are made of clear materials. There are also studded leather bags in animal prints and small hardcase clutches with plastic chain handles.
The footwear is made of leather and clear plastic featuring transparent heels and wedge platforms which creates a nude shoes effect. But there are also black, red, white, and snakeskin shoes in the collection.
Best shorts for your shape
Summer fashion inevitably means showing more skin — and for many of us, this is a scary prospect! Shorts are often on the agenda, but it’s hard to know which styles work with our body types.
Short tales Just in time for seasonal shopping, we take care of the legwork: See what our experts have to say.
Petite “If you are petite, go for shorter shorts that elongate your legs — the more leg you show, the longer your legs look,” fashion expert. Alternatively, longer shorts actually make your legs look shorter.
Hourglass This curvy shape can go one of two ways: Balance your body by not going too narrow in the leg, or go super-skinny and wear with heels for major impact.
Leg shy “If you don’t love your legs but still want to keep cool, I suggest wearing knee length shorts. They can be very figure flattering,” . Knee-length shorts are a great choice when you want to hide your flaws and stay cool in warm weather.
Heavy thigh If you have heavier upper thighs, your best bet is a classic short. Also known as a walking short, this mid-length style has about a 7-inch inseam and is the most universally flattering style. Make sure they are structured and straight from the thigh down. Avoid anything with visual interest, such as cargo pockets, pleats and embellishments — they only add more volume to the area.
Curvy “If you have curves, go for a looser pair that is not as form fitting. Stay away from prints” .
Pear or rounde A relaxed fit is best, and the length depends on your legs. Add a longer top or one that flares out a bit to balance body shape.
Long and lean If you have very long and thin legs, you’ll want to look for a roll-up or cuffed hem style short. They help break up the long line of your legs and create curves at the same time.
